We are back by popular demand! In June last year we rolled into Cherbourg to have one of our BBQs across from the beautiful Ration Shed Museum, and as always we brought food, clothes, shoes, toiletries, children’s toys. While we were organizing the many, MANY things that need to be organized when holding a BBQ close to 300km northwest of where we are located, we spoke to the Cherbourg Council about what they would need the most. The answer was school books, school supplies and educational games. We put the word out, and were grateful to have been donated many, MANY of these by our beautiful Signal Flare community.

After the BBQ we had a talk with the Cherbourg Council; our visit had felt like a whirlwind, traveling near 300km, setting up, having the BBQ from 10am to 2pm, then pulling everything down and off we went. We wanted to do more for these beautiful people, so we asked the Council what we could do to help more. The very first thing they said was that they would love second hand bikes for the children. If the kids would get bikes which they needed to fix before they could use them they would value the bikes a lot more. We were touched by the modesty of this community, and thought this was an awesome plan.

And so it happened that we started to collect second hand bikes. Many, many bikes. We had collection points of bikes. As always, we were touched by the generosity of our community. Impact Church, thank you very much for transporting the bikes to Cherbourg!

And this Saturday, 27 February, we are going to be back in Cherbourg. We will deliver the bikes and have our BBQ at the same location where we were last year. If you want to be involved, IT IS NOT TOO LATE!

• Volunteers on the day are very welcome (for details please see the flyer, we start setting up at 8am) – you will be fed and keeping up your fluids, and you will have the experience of a lifetime. Please contact us if you are coming, so we have an idea of numbers and know to look out for you. On a BBQ day, volunteers help us set up and pull down, they help us make our guests feel welcome, talk with them, share a meal and a laugh, hand out food and drinks, help our guests find just what they are looking for amongst our donations, there are so many ways of contributing as a volunteer at our events…
• Going to Cherbourg is a lot more of an expensive undertaking than it is having a BBQ in our own backyard (for example Musgrave Park in South Brisbane), and any monetary donations are very welcome too. If you like to make a tax deductible donation, please go to “donate now” and make your transfer. Please send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. We are looking forward to our Cherbourg BBQ and Bikes event, people! And who knows, we may just see you there!

Please be safe, and watch this space!
